Ela Kocaçöğür, a 7-year-old, was taken to a private hospital in Isparta for dental treatment and died after her heart stopped during general anesthesia. The sudden death of the young gymnastics athlete plunged her family and loved ones into mourning, and both a judicial and administrative investigation have been launched.
GENERAL ANESTHESIA ADMINISTERED
Ela Kocaçöğür, a second-grade student at Mehmet Yıldızlı Primary School living in Burdur, was brought to a private hospital in Isparta yesterday for dental treatment. Due to the child's fear and anxiety, it was decided to perform the treatment under general anesthesia. However, during the procedure, Ela's heart suddenly stopped. Despite medical interventions, the little girl could not be saved and died.
HEARTBREAKING SOLIDARITY AT THE MORGUE DOOR
Devastated by the tragic news, mother Serap and father Ali Kocaçöğür came to the morgue of Burdur State Hospital to receive their daughter's body after the autopsy. The grieving parents, sobbing at the morgue door, holding hands to support each other, was heart-wrenching. Ela, who practiced gymnastics at a private club with her two siblings, will be laid to rest today at the Burdur Asri Cemetery.
"WE WILL ACT WITHOUT HESITATION IF THERE IS NEGLIGENCE"
After the incident, Naim Şenyurt, President of the Isparta Chamber of Dentists, issued a written statement expressing deep sorrow. Noting that general anesthesia or sedation is a method used when cooperation cannot be achieved in pediatric patients, Şenyurt stated:
"Regarding this tragic event, necessary investigations have been initiated by both judicial authorities and other competent bodies. The exact cause of the incident will become clear after the autopsy and forensic examinations. We declare that we will take the necessary steps within the framework of our professional regulations without hesitation if any negligence or fault is identified."
OFFICIAL AUTHORITIES TAKE ACTION
Following the heartbreaking death of little Ela, Mehmet Necmeddin Dinç, Director of National Education for Burdur Province, also published a condolence message on his social media account, offering his condolences to the family.
A comprehensive investigation launched by judicial authorities upon the family's complaint is ongoing. The public awaits the report from the Forensic Medicine Institute to determine the exact cause of Ela's death.
