Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the 5G-supported intelligent transportation systems tested on a 40-kilometer route in Istanbul will also be moved to Ankara. Within the scope of the project, it is planned to create a total 247-kilometer smart transportation corridor in the capital covering the Ankara Ring Highway, Gölbaşı-Oğulbey, and Polatlı sections. The project aims to test and implement connected and autonomous driving technologies in a wider area.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a written statement regarding Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS). Stating that Turkey has established significant infrastructure in the field of C-ITS, Minister Uraloğlu said that intelligent transportation systems are among the technologies that increase traffic safety, travel comfort, and transportation efficiency.

"WE AIM TO CARRY CONNECTED AND AUTONOMOUS DRIVING TECHNOLOGIES TO A WIDER ROUTE IN ANKARA"

Noting that they implemented Turkey's first C-ITS Test and Application Corridor between Hasdal and Istanbul Airport, Uraloğlu said, "We are testing 5G-supported intelligent transportation technologies on a route of approximately 40 kilometers. We continue testing systems that enable vehicles to exchange data with roadside units and control centers."

Emphasizing that the corridor in Istanbul also constitutes important infrastructure for the project planned in Ankara, Uraloğlu used the following statements: "By benefiting from the knowledge and experience we gained from our first application, we aim to carry connected and autonomous driving technologies to a wider route in Ankara."

"WE ARE PLANNING A 247-KILOMETER ITS CORRIDOR IN ANKARA"

Stating that the work in Ankara is considered within the scope of the second phase of the C-ITS efforts, Uraloğlu continued as follows: "Our project work continues to create a total 247-kilometer ITS Corridor covering the 166-kilometer Ankara Ring Motorway, the 22-kilometer Gölbaşı-Oğulbey and 59-kilometer Polatlı sections, and the Polatlı-Gölbaşı-Ankara Ring Road route. Together with this corridor, we aim to test and apply connected and autonomous vehicle technologies in a wider area."

Uraloğlu noted that within the scope of the project, the aim is for intelligent transportation systems infrastructure and communication systems to work in an integrated manner, and that contributions will be made to the development of technologies for vehicle-infrastructure and vehicle-center communication.

REAL-TIME MONITORING ON HIGHWAYS WITH INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS

Stating that they strengthened the digital infrastructure to make traffic management on highways more effective, Uraloğlu reported that road and traffic conditions are monitored in real time through the Main Intelligent Transportation Systems Center in Ankara and regional centers.

Expressing that intelligent transportation technologies are used in many areas, from informing drivers to increasing traffic safety, Uraloğlu stated: "On our highways, we benefit from signaling systems, variable message and traffic signs, meteorological information stations, camera and monitoring systems, vehicle and incident detection systems, electronic toll collection systems, and tunnel control systems."
