In a horrific accident in India, at least 36 people lost their lives when a bus rolled into a valley 60 meters deep. In the tragic accident that occurred in Almora district of Uttarakhand state, there were 60 passengers on the bus, which has a capacity of 42. Some passengers who survived the accident miraculously climbed out of the valley. According to Uttarakhand official Vineet Pal, the bus was in very poor condition and was not fit to be on the road. Two transport officials who allowed the bus to operate have been suspended from their duties. Images from the bottom of the valley show the bus shattered after crashing into the rocks. While the front of the vehicle was completely crushed, local residents rushed to the rescue efforts. The accident occurred this morning when the driver lost control while heading to the Ramnagar area. While the state government has launched an investigation into the incident, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. Modi also announced that the families of the deceased would receive 200,000 rupees (approximately £1,834), and the injured would receive 50,000 rupees (approximately £458) in compensation. Similar bus accidents have occurred in India in recent months. In July, a tourist bus rolled into a valley, resulting in the deaths of two children and serious injuries to 20 others. Recently, in another accident in Kerala state, four people, including a one-year-old baby, lost their lives, and 13 others were injured.
