A child with Down syndrome brutally beaten! The lie was revealed by security camera footage.

08.06.2024 05:42

A 17-year-old student with Down syndrome was brutally beaten by a teacher at a special education school in Ankara. The attacker teacher was seen stepping on the student, dragging them on the floor, and kicking them. The suspect was arrested and sent to prison by the court.

A 28-year-old teacher named Mücahit Mert Hepgümüş was arrested for beating 17-year-old Berat Ü., who has Down syndrome, at a special education school in Ankara. The incident was captured on the school's security camera, and it was observed that the teacher who assaulted Berat's wife, who also works at the same school, passed by without paying attention to the moments of violence.

MOTHER CALLED HER SAYING "BERAT UPSET ME TODAY"

The incident took place on May 24 at the Special Education Practice School affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in the Kumpınar neighborhood of Kahramankazan district. Special education teacher Mücahit Mert Hepgümüş called Berat Ü.'s mother, Serap C., and said, "Berat upset me today. There were conflicts between him and his friend. His lip was bleeding."

MOTHER WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THE BRUISES ON HIS BODY

When Serap C. picked up her son from the school bus, she noticed bruises on his body. When Serap C. asked how the bruises occurred, Berat Ü. said, "The teacher did it." On Monday, Seray C. went to school and talked to the vice principal about the incident. Seray C. was told that her son Berat hit his face on the radiator during a conflict with his friend, and that teacher Mücahit Mert Hepgümüş displayed some harsh behavior that should be used in special education, and that there was no significant problem to be exaggerated.

LIE WAS REFUTED BY SECURITY CAMERA FOOTAGE

Upon the insistence of the mother, the security camera footage of the school was examined. When the camera recordings were examined, it was revealed that Berat with Down syndrome was beaten by his teacher.

HUSBAND ASSAULTED, WIFE PASSED BY

In the footage captured by the camera, it was seen that Hepgümüş stepped on Berat, dragged him on the floor, and kicked him. It was also observed that Z.H., who is Hepgümüş's wife and was on duty at the school that day, passed by without intervening.

ASSAULTING TEACHER ARRESTED

After watching the footage and obtaining a medical report of the assault from the hospital for her son, Serap C. filed a criminal complaint through her lawyer Çiğdem Tan. Mücahit Mert Hepgümüş, who was taken into custody, said, "I was trying to convince Berat to go to the classroom." Hepgümüş was arrested by the court.

"WE WILL FILE ADDITIONAL COMPLAINT AGAINST HIS WIFE"

Berat's lawyer Çiğdem Tan stated that two months ago, bruises were detected in Berat's eyes, but the school did not take responsibility and no concrete evidence was put forward. Tan said, "None of the violence is normal, but this is even more serious. It is a behavior that a teacher does with a monstrous feeling. Unfortunately, this child has been tried to be educated by systematically being beaten. The suspect has been arrested, but we are suffering because a lawsuit has been filed for 'simple injury'. Because this incident, as can be understood from the footage, is too horrific to be considered simple, and it is an incident of 'intentional injury'. It is a case that must be seen from a high perspective in terms of the lower limit and upper limit. In addition, the teacher who was on duty that day is the wife of the teacher who committed this violence, and she just watched. There is also a footage where she kicked the victim, the child with Down syndrome. However, this situation has not yet been conveyed to the prosecutor's office, and we will also file a complaint."

UP TO 1.5 YEARS IMPRISONMENT DEMAND

In the indictment prepared by the Kahramankazan Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that when the camera recordings were examined, it was clearly seen that the suspect teacher assaulted the victim child, and the defense made by the teacher was completely aimed at escaping from the crime and contrary to the normal course of life.

THE FIRST HEARING WILL BE ON JUNE 24

In the indictment, it was requested that Hepgümüş be punished for the crime of "simple injury" in accordance with Article 86 of the Turkish Penal Code. The prosecution requested an increase in the punishment due to the crime being committed against a person who is unable to defend themselves physically or mentally and being a public official, and demanded a prison sentence of 6 months to 1.5 years. The indictment was accepted by the 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance in Kahramankazan. The suspect teacher will appear before the judge on June 24.
