In the African country of Benin, soldiers who attempted a coup announced on the state television they seized that they had dissolved the government and removed President Patrice Talon from office.
The African country of Benin was shaken by a coup attempt. Soldiers, who called themselves the "Military Committee for Reconstruction" (CMR), launched an attack on the residence of President Patrice Talon in the capital Porto Novo in the morning hours.
"PRESIDENT REMOVED FROM OFFICE"
Soldiers led by Colonel Assistant Pascal Tigri then seized the national television channel. Reading the coup announcement, Tigri declared that they had dissolved the government and announced that President Patrice Talon had been removed from office. Tigri also announced that he was the head of the military committee for reconstruction.

In a statement made by the French Embassy in Porto Novo, it was reported that "Dear citizens, gunfire has been heard at the Camp Guezo Military Facility, located near the residence of President Mr. Patrice Talon. We recommend that you follow official announcements in the coming hours and be cautious of incoming information. Thank you for your attention and cooperation." No statement has yet been made regarding the condition of President Patrice Talon.
A presidential election was planned to be held in Benin in April next year. The last presidential election in the country was held in 2021.
