The attacks by Israel on the Gaza Strip have been ongoing since October 7, 2023, under the watchful eye of the entire world. Recently, it was suggested that Qatar would withdraw from the mediation efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza, while Doha denied these claims. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Majid al-Ansari stated in an interview with the Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the reports in the media claiming that the country has withdrawn from ceasefire mediation in Gaza are not true.

"IF NO AGREEMENT IS REACHED, WE WILL TEMPORARILY SUSPEND MEDIATION"

Al-Ansari expressed that during the recent negotiations, they informed the parties that if no agreement is reached, they would temporarily suspend mediation between Hamas and Israel. Spokesperson Al-Ansari emphasized that Qatar would resume mediation efforts between the parties to alleviate the civilian suffering caused by the end of the conflict and the severe humanitarian conditions in Gaza. Al-Ansari stated, "The State of Qatar will not allow mediation to be used as a tool of blackmail."

"WE WILL SUPPORT PALESTINE UNTIL IT ACHIEVES INDEPENDENCE WITHIN 1967 BORDERS"

The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson conveyed that the State of Qatar will support the Palestinian people until they achieve an independent state with its capital in East Jerusalem within the 1967 borders, and that the Palestinian issue holds central importance for Qatar. Al-Ansari also stated that the news regarding the Hamas political office in Doha is not accurate, clarifying that the purpose of the office in Qatar is to serve as a communication channel between the relevant parties.
