A fake dollar alert has been issued in the market.

A fake dollar alert has been issued in the market.

21.11.2024 09:20

There has been a panic over counterfeit dollars in the market for some time. It has been learned that the counterfeiting is primarily being done with $50 bills, and it has been recorded that the fake money has passed through currency counting machines. Currency exchange offices have stated that they have stopped buying and selling $50 bills, and a bank's currency counting machine even failed to distinguish between fake and real dollars, triggering a red alert. Currency exchange offices indicated that this issue is due to a vulnerability in the updates of the machines.

Currently, there is a panic over counterfeit dollars in the market. So much so that even a bank's money counting machine could not distinguish the fake dollar from the real one. Once it was understood that the money was counterfeit, banks went into red alert. It was noted that the fraud was particularly carried out using 50 dollar bills.

When trying to exchange 50 dollars, it was learned that some currency exchange offices said, "We do not accept 50 dollars." Currency exchange office owners stated, "Since the fakes have also passed through our machines, we are not making purchases at the moment." To avoid being victims, some currency exchange offices have stopped processing transactions for those who want to exchange 50 and 100 dollar bills since last week.

"WE HAVE STOPPED BUYING AND SELLING 50 DOLLAR BILLS"

According to a report on ATV News, currency exchange office owner Oğuzhan Uzun said, "There is a problem with 50 dollar bills. There are many fakes among the 50 dollar bills. In fact, we have stopped buying and selling 50 dollar bills. The money can be accepted very easily. It can pass without any issues. Today, someone came with 100 dollar bills. About 300 dollars worth of counterfeit money came."

"IT ACCEPTS DUE TO THE UPDATE GAP IN MACHINES"

In response to the question, "What is the reason for this counterfeiting?" currency exchange office owner Uzun stated, "Currently, it is due to the updates in the machines not keeping up. That is, due to the update gap in the machines, they accept counterfeit money very easily."

The panic over counterfeit dollars has been ongoing for the last one and a half months. In Istanbul, the most counterfeit bills are 50 dollar bills, while in Ankara, the most counterfeit bills are 100 dollar bills.

HOW TO DETECT COUNTERFEIT DOLLARS?

Currency exchange office owners stated, "It is not possible for ordinary citizens to understand these."
