In Ukraine's large-scale drone attack on Moscow and its surroundings, more than 390 drones targeted the region. While Russian officials stated that dozens of drones were shot down by air defense systems, a fire broke out in an apartment building in the city of Chekhov, causing heavy damage to numerous units. The attack was reported to be one of the largest drone operations against the Moscow region since the start of the war.
Tension has risen again in the Russia-Ukraine war. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced that more than 390 Ukrainian drones headed towards the Moscow region from Monday night to Tuesday morning. Sobyanin stated that 81 of them were shot down by air defense systems before approaching the capital.
FIRE BROKE OUT IN APARTMENT BUILDING
One of the most notable targets of the attack was the city of Chekhov near Moscow. Regional Governor Andrey Vorobyov reported that an apartment building was damaged by a drone strike, a fire broke out on the upper floors, and many apartments became unusable. Chekhov Mayor Mikhail Sobakin stated that no casualties were reported based on initial findings.
OTHER CITIES ALSO TARGETED
Russian authorities announced that drone attacks were carried out on many settlements in the Moscow region, particularly Podolsk, Domodedovo, and Kolomna, and that air defense systems neutralized dozens of targets. Security measures have been increased in some areas due to the attack.
MESSAGE: "WAR HAS RETURNED TO RUSSIA"
After the attack, images shared on pro-Ukrainian social media accounts used the phrase, "The war has returned to Russia, as Zelenskyy promised." While the Ukrainian administration has not made an official statement about the attack, it is known that it has increased long-range drone operations into Russia's interior in recent months.
ATTACKS ESCALATE MUTUALLY
In recent weeks, both Russia's missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities and Ukraine's operations against military and logistical targets on Russian soil have increased significantly. Experts note that both sides targeting critical areas beyond the front line has further intensified the course of the war.
