A powerful dust storm swept through Churu city in Rajasthan, India, covering the city with a thick dust cloud. The sky turned brown as the storm blanketed it with dust, and the sand and dust carried by strong winds seemed to swallow the city entirely.

India, one of the world's most populous countries, has once again faced nature's destructive side. The western state of Rajasthan, dominated by a desert climate, experienced one of its most severe and terrifying dust storms in recent years.

DUST CLOUDS SWALLOWED CITIES

On Saturday, a sudden brown dust storm in Churu city completely obscured the sky and quickly spread over a wide area due to the wind. The massive storm, which also affected Bikaner city in the afternoon, painted the sky brown, turning day into night. With visibility dropping below a few meters across the state, land and air transportation came to a near standstill, millions of people were forced to stay indoors, and daily life was paralyzed.

HEAVY RAIN ALSO IMPACTED

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that a strong air current from the west triggered this extreme weather event. Immediately after the dust storm, heavy rain and thunderstorms broke out in many parts of the state. The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours was recorded at 58 millimeters in the Bari area of Dholpur city.

STORM SPEEDS COULD REACH 70 KILOMETERS

The Jaipur Meteorological Center issued an emergency warning for a vast area covering Bikaner, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bharatpur, Kota, Jodhpur, and Udaipur regions. Authorities stated that harsh weather conditions would persist for the next 4 to 5 days, warning of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by storms with speeds reaching 60 to 70 kilometers per hour. Additionally, citizens were advised to stay away from open areas due to strong winds, sudden hailstorms, and deadly lightning strikes.

THE ONLY POSITIVE: IT SOOTHED THE SCORCHING HEAT

Meanwhile, meteorological officials said that the extreme heatwave that had been plaguing the region for days was broken by this storm and rain system. Temperatures across the state are expected to remain below 44 degrees Celsius, and it was stated that the nightmare storm would at least provide partial relief to the local population from the heat.
