A panic occurred when a mercury tube, intended for an experiment, fell and broke while being taken to the laboratory at a school in Karamürsel district of Kocaeli. The incident took place at Karamürsel Atatürk Middle School. The mercury tube, which was planned to be used for an experiment, fell from its box and broke while being taken to the laboratory. Upon notification to the 112 Emergency Call Center, numerous fire, AFAD, health, and police teams were dispatched to the address. Students, teachers, and staff were immediately evacuated from the school. THE PIECES ON THE GROUND WERE CLEANED BY TEAMSOne student and two school staff members were taken to Gölcük Necati State Hospital as a precaution. It was reported that the health conditions of the student and staff were good. The pieces on the ground were cleaned by the teams. The school was closed for the day. Fazlı Soytürk, who arrived at the school as soon as he heard the news, said, "Mercury has spilled in the school. My grandson studies at this school. We came here as soon as we heard the news. Some were taken to the hospital by ambulance." Adnan Altıparmak, who heard the sounds, stated, "We understood that fire trucks had arrived at the school from their sounds. As we learned, mercury spilled during the experiment conducted by students and teachers in the laboratory. Our fire teams took necessary precautions and evacuated the students," he said.
