FIFA is preparing to implement a new application as an alternative to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. According to a report by ESPN, FIFA is considering developing a new system called Football Video Support (FVS). COACHES WILL BE ABLE TO CHALLENGE REFEREE DECISIONSIn this system, coaches will be able to challenge the referee's decision if they disagree with it. The referee will consider the challenge and review the situation on the monitor, even without a VAR alert, and reassess their decision. If this system is implemented, coaches will be able to challenge referee decisions they believe are incorrect at least twice per match. INITIAL TESTS HAVE BEEN CONDUCTEDThis system was first applied in the Under-20 World Cup held in Colombia this summer and in the Under-17 Women's World Cup matches held in October. Pierluigi Collina, the Chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, stated regarding the matter, "We have not noticed anything unexpected in the tests conducted so far."
