A nurse working in the emergency department of Royal Oldham Hospital in England was stabbed by a patient who was upset about the waiting time. The attack, which occurred around 11:30 PM on Saturday night, left the female nurse critically injured, with reports indicating she suffered "life-changing" injuries. A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident. One eyewitness said, "It was a very frightening incident - there was an argument with the patient. I think he got angry because he had to wait for examination. It was a scary situation." Another witness added, "There was a dispute with a patient. The situation got out of control, but the patient wasn't completely insane. It was a typical disagreement that could happen late at night. Such incidents happen frequently, but it's very sad to attack a nurse." Detective Sergeant Craig Roters from Greater Manchester Police stated, "This is a serious incident that has left a woman in critical condition. Our thoughts are with her family and colleagues. We will continue to support them throughout the investigation." Roters, who noted that police presence in the area would be increased, said, "Such news has a shocking effect on the community. If you have any concerns or something you would like to share, please contact us." Health Minister Wes Streeting condemned the incident in a statement on social media, saying, "Nurses are the backbone of the NHS (National Health Service) and should be able to care for patients without fear of violence." The hospital management stated that all services are continuing as normal and that they are fully supporting the police investigation.
