Actions have been initiated to implement the age limit rule for social media, which is applied from the USA to China and from France to Italy, in our country as well. The Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) and the Ministry of Family and Social Services are conducting a study by examining examples. According to this study, it is planned to prohibit access to social media applications and social networks for those under 13 years of age. According to the news in Milliyet; after academician Prof. Dr. Tuncay Dilci stated that smartphones are banned for those under 13 in many countries and suggested that a similar application be brought to the agenda in Turkey, Eda Şirnevai, Head of the Protective and Preventive Services Department of the General Directorate of Child Services, said, "We are working on this with the Child Rights Commission." EXAMPLES HAVE BEEN EXAMINEDVarious applications regarding children's use of social media in different countries are as follows: USA: A law prohibiting social media use for those under 14 will come into effect in some states starting from 2025. China: Opening a social media account for those under 16 is subject to parental consent. Access to mobile devices and the internet is prohibited between 22:00 and 06:00. France: Access to social media for those under 15 is subject to parental consent. South Korea: Online gaming is prohibited for children under 16 between 00:00 and 06:00. United Kingdom and Russia: Opening accounts on online platforms is restricted for those under 13. Italy: Owning a mobile phone is prohibited for those under 14, and those under 16 are banned from opening profiles on social media.
