In Eskişehir, two female suspects who distracted a 52-year-old woman sitting on the sidewalk and snatched 17 quarter gold coins from her neck were caught by police in the taxi they boarded, following a pursuit that closed off the city's entrances and exits; while the gold coins thrown onto the grass were recovered, one of the suspects, who was referred to the courthouse, was arrested.
In Eskisehir, two female suspects who snatched 17 quarter gold coins worth 185,000 Turkish Liras from the neck of a 52-year-old woman sitting on a sidewalk and fled were caught by police following a swift chase. The gold was found in a grassy area, and one of the suspects, who was referred to the courthouse, was arrested.
The incident occurred in Tepebasi district, Muttalip Orta neighborhood, on the third day of Eid al-Adha at around 14:10. According to the information obtained, while 52-year-old Y.O. was sitting on the sidewalk, a woman with a small child and another woman approached her.
THEY DISTRACTED AND SNATCHED THE GOLD FROM HER NECK
The suspects talked with Y.O. for a while, distracting her. Then, with a sudden move, they snatched the 17 quarter gold coins, worth approximately 185,000 TL in market value, hanging on a string around the unfortunate woman's neck and quickly fled the scene. The theft was captured moment by moment by a nearby security camera.
POLICE CLOSED CITY ENTRIES AND EXITS
Upon the victim reporting the situation to police teams immediately, teams from the Public Order Branch Directorate Theft Bureau Office launched an extensive operation. Determining the suspects' escape route, the teams closed the city's entries and exits and set up checkpoints in nearby areas.
