In the case regarding the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, the mother, brother, and uncle who were tried in detention were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment, while Nevzat Bahtiyar received a prison sentence of 4 years and 6 months.

After the verdict, a remarkable statement came from Nevzat Bahtiyar's lawyer. Lawyer Ali Eryılmaz expressed the following in a statement made on social media:

Eryılmaz stated, "Nevzat was acquitted of murder. Justice has been served. We succeeded together. Your presence gave us strength and motivation."

WHAT HAPPENED TODAY?

The second hearing in the case of the murder of Narin Güran, which all of Turkey has been eagerly awaiting, concluded today. The presiding judge announced the decision. In the second hearing of the case held at the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court, where detained defendants mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran, along with Nevzat Bahtiyar, who confessed to hiding Narin's lifeless body in Eğertutmaz Stream, were tried, the defendants were asked for their final words.

• Detained defendant Yüksel Güran stated that his heart was wounded, saying, "My Lord is my witness and my guarantor. I am not the killer of my daughter. I did not harm my daughter in the presence of any servant of God. I stand tall. I am currently answering next to the killer. I want my acquittal."
• Detained defendant Enes Güran claimed that he always spoke the truth, stating that he did not accept the charges against him and requested his acquittal.
• Detained defendant Salim Güran also reminded that Narin was his niece, saying, "She is my life; I am the last person who would harm her in this world. The ox is in the square. No one is saying the ox is here. I am innocent; I want my acquittal."
• Detained defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar said, "Mr. President, I definitely did not kill Narin. Salim Güran gave me the body. I carried it. Whatever the penalty for carrying is, I accept it. I swear I definitely did not kill her."

The court panel decided to sentence the detained defendants mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran to aggravated life imprisonment separately for the crime of "intentional murder of a child in participation," in accordance with Articles 37/1, 82/1-d,e, 53/1, and 63 of the Turkish Penal Code.

Nevzat Bahtiyar was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence."

The court panel, which decided to continue the detention of the defendants, did not apply any good behavior reductions in the sentences given to the 4 defendants.
