A strong reaction from the AK Party regarding the tension experienced in the Parliament.

20.11.2024 12:00

Tensions arose in the corridors of the Parliament ahead of the Interior Ministry's budget discussions for 2025. As Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya was heading to the meeting room, a scuffle broke out between CHP (Republican People's Party) deputies and AK Party members. Following the incident, there were consecutive reactions from the AK Party. The events were strongly condemned, and it was stated that the CHP should take necessary actions.

The budget discussions of the Ministry of Interior in the TBMM Planning and Budget Commission started with tension. Before the meeting, there was a debate about the trustees between AK Party and CHP deputies. As the debate escalated, the tension increased.

THEY PREVENTED YERLİKAYA FROM ENTERING

The tension rose even further during the entrance of Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya to the hall. Due to the trustee appointments, CHP deputies prevented him from entering the commission hall.

MINISTER YERLİKAYA: WE MUST PROTECT THE LEVEL OF DEMOCRACY

Speaking about the scuffle that broke out due to the reaction against the trustees while entering the budget discussion, Minister Yerlikaya said, "We are fighting against terrorism. The mayor is the person to whom everything in the city is entrusted. Turkey is a rule of law. We must protect the level of democracy."

STRONG REACTION FROM THE AK PARTY

Before the commission, a strong statement came from AK Party Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik regarding the scuffle in which Minister Yerlikaya was caught in the middle. Çelik stated that the tension experienced by CHP deputies with Minister Yerlikaya was barbaric and made the following statement on his social media account:

"The attack by some CHP deputies on our Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya in the Parliament is barbarism. We condemn this attack. Banditry cannot be accepted in the Parliament.

No one can silence our Ministers and Deputies. Our experience in political struggle against barbarism is high. We will fight this struggle in the clearest way. Barbarism and banditry will receive the political and legal responses it deserves in every arena.

"CHP MUST DO WHAT IS NECESSARY"

CHP must do what is necessary in the face of this attack. Those who do not take action against barbarism will be treated as liars when they talk about democracy or normalization."
