The police in Gloucestershire, England, caught a truck driver eating while driving at high speed on the highway. In a special inspection carried out by the Gloucestershire Police Department on the M5 motorway, 20 drivers were stopped for rule violations during an operation conducted using an unmarked truck. In the footage shared by the police, moments were recorded showing a truck driver leaving the steering wheel to eat with a spoon and uncontrollably entering and exiting the emergency lane. When the driver noticed the police, he quickly put down what was likely yogurt and placed his hands back on the steering wheel. In this special inspection called Operation Tramline, violations that are usually difficult to detect were identified thanks to the high cabin of the unmarked truck. During the four-day operation, violations such as using a mobile phone, not wearing a seatbelt, and unsafe load carrying were also detected. Sergeant Matt Firth of the Roads Policing Unit emphasized that such inspections are important for reducing traffic accidents. Inspections conducted with three unmarked trucks allocated to police units across the country by the National Highways Authority aim to reduce fatal and injury-causing accidents on the highways.
