A university student who caused the death of her newborn baby by hiding it in a 'cereal' box has been found guilty of murder. Jia Xin Teo, a 22-year-old woman from Malaysia who moved to England to study at Coventry University, gave birth on March 4. According to a police statement, after giving birth, Teo hid her baby in a cereal box inside her suitcase. THE CORPSE WAS FOUND IN THE SUITCASE Police searched Teo's room following a tip-off and found the lifeless body of the baby inside the suitcase where she had hidden it. Jia Xin Teo, who denied killing the baby, claimed she heard voices telling her that she needed to kill it. Teo, found guilty of murder by the court, has not yet been sentenced. PROSECUTOR: SHE KILLED INTENTIONALLY Prosecutor James Leslie Francis stated, "Jia Xin Teo concealed her pregnancy from everyone she knew and came to England knowing there was a high possibility of giving birth here. She had the opportunity to seek help, but instead chose to secretly continue her pregnancy and give birth alone. Even after giving birth, she did not tell anyone and refused to go to the hospital for check-ups. The baby was alive after Teo gave birth and could have lived, but Jia Xin Teo decided to put it in a cereal box knowing she would kill it," he said.
