After the entry of opposition groups into the capital Damascus, the 61-year Ba'ath regime came to an end, and Bashar al-Assad and his family fled to Russia. Following Assad's escape, inhumane images emerged from Sednaya Prison located in Damascus.
It is believed that there are still missing people in Sednaya Prison, known as the "human slaughterhouse." The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), which came to the region upon the request of local authorities and in coordination with the Embassy in Damascus, has started search and rescue operations in the prison.
WORK BEGUN AT THE REQUEST OF LOCAL AUTHORITIES
In a statement made on AFAD's social media account, it was reminded that teams departing from Hatay, under the leadership of AFAD President Okay Memiş, have reached Sednaya Prison in Damascus. In the operations that started upon the request of local authorities in coordination with the Embassy in Damascus, it was noted that 120 personnel, 4 search dogs, and 43 vehicles are involved.
The statement said, "In the operations carried out with great diligence by our expert teams, all technical means and equipment such as wall imaging devices, ground radar, and seismic acoustic listening devices are being used. We continue to stand by our Syrian brothers in all their needs, from humanitarian aid to search and rescue. For our people in our country, for humanity beyond our borders."
