Afghan Special Forces (ASF) on Friday claimed to eliminate over 30 Taliban rebels in the southeastern Paktika province, bordering Pakistan's restive North Waziristan tribal region.
Reports emerging from the Paktika's Nika district suggest ground and air forces hit hideouts of the suspected militants Thursday night. Ahmad Javaid, a spokesman for the ASF told journalists on Friday that most of the rebels killed were Pakistani militants.
"The hideouts in the Nika district were used as base camp to wage terrorist attacks on neighboring Paktia, Ghazni and in the Khost provinces," Javaid said, adding that a huge cache of arms and ammunitions have also been seized.
Meanwhile, Zabehullah Mujahid, the purported Taliban spokesman, has alleged that the Afghan forces have targeted a seminary, killing "many civilians."
