After the heartbreaking event in Turkey, President Erdoğan expressed words filled with reproach.

In the Selçuk district of İzmir, five siblings aged between 1 and 5, Fadime Nefes (5), Funda Peri (4), Aslan Miraç (3), Masal Işık (2), and Aras Bulut Akcan (1), lost their lives in a fire that broke out from the stove after their mother, Melisa Akcan, locked the door behind them. While the tragic event plunged Turkey into sorrow, the question "Was there negligence?" came to the forefront.

"I WOULDN'T EVEN WANT TO TRUST MY MOTHER WITH THEM"

Mother Melisa Akcan explained to Minister Göktaş during his visit why she did not place her children under the protection of the ministry, saying, "My children were the only thing that connected me to life. I wouldn't even want to trust my children to my mother."

ERDOĞAN: THE MINISTRY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE CHILDREN

During the Central Executive Board meeting held the day before yesterday under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the tragic event that devastated Turkey was also discussed. It was learned that Erdoğan stated regarding the issue, "If you call it a house, it’s not a house; if you call it a shack, it’s not a shack; the ministry should have taken the children." It was also expressed that the members of the MYK emphasized that, according to the law regarding the best interests of the child, the children should have been taken.

"THOSE WHO DIDN'T TAKE THEM SHOULD BE QUESTIONED"

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the Ministry of Family and Social Services is directly involved with households in need and that there is a social assistance mechanism, but the functioning of this mechanism needs to be questioned. It was learned that a member of the MYK stated regarding the issue, "They entered that house 18 times but did not take the children; an investigation should be conducted on the workers. The system should have protected those innocent children from that house. Legally, there is the principle of the best interests of the child; those children should have been taken from that house. We need to question the minds of those who didn’t take them."

AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN INITIATED

According to a report by Sabah; following President Erdoğan's statements, the Ministry of Family and Social Services has assigned a special team to conduct a detailed investigation into the matter.
