Paraguay President Santiago Pena declared June 30 a national holiday after his country advanced to the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup by eliminating Germany.
JUNE 30 DECLARED A PUBLIC HOLIDAY
Pena shared on the US-based X company's social media platform the decree showing June 30 as a holiday and moments of him signing it. Celebrating Paraguay's victory over Germany, Pena thanked the national team for "bringing great joy to the country and reuniting millions of Paraguayans under a single flag." The decree shared by Pena also stated that Paraguay's victory over Germany carried national significance beyond sports, and that June 30 was declared a national holiday so this historic achievement could be celebrated across the country.

Paraguay, facing Germany at Boston Stadium in the USA, advanced to the Round of 16 by winning 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
