A probe has been launched following the remarks made by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu during a panel, directed at Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek, which were deemed as 'threatening'. After the decision to investigate, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that investigations have also been initiated against those who shared posts about the matter on social media.
The Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), Ekrem İmamoğlu, made statements during a panel directed at Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek, saying, "We will remove this mind that governs you to protect even your children from this treatment. We will remove it so that no one takes your children from their home in the morning."
Immediately after his speech, an investigation was launched against İmamoğlu on the grounds of 'threat to the family of Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek.'
PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE: INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED AGAINST THOSE WHO SHARE IN THE SAME MANNER
Following this investigation, another investigation was initiated against those who made related posts on social media.
In a statement regarding the investigations, the Prosecutor's Office stated, "Following the statements made by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu regarding Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Mr. Akın Gürlek and the use of expressions that constitute a threat to his family, an investigation has been initiated by officials from the Threat and Counter-Terrorism units.
Additionally, an investigation has also been launched against individuals who made similar posts on Twitter and other social media platforms following the aforementioned statements," it was stated.
