Davutoğlu stated, "The people of Gaza should hold a referendum and connect to Turkey as an autonomous region until a Palestinian state is established."
While the scandalous statements of U.S. President Donald Trump, who aims to seize Gaza and expel Palestinians from the region, are on the world's agenda, an eye-catching proposal came from Ahmet Davutoğlu, the General Chairman of the Future Party. Speaking at the group meeting of the New Path, the umbrella party of the Future, Felicity, and DEVA parties, Davutoğlu proposed that Gaza be autonomously connected to Turkey in response to the Trump threat.

Davutoğlu stated, "As a Turk of Ottoman subjects, I say this; the last legitimate state of the Gazans is the Ottoman Empire. After that, the British Mandate was established without granting citizenship. Then, Israel is already illegal and has not granted any citizenship. As the Republic of Turkey, which is the legitimate continuity of the Ottoman Empire, we should treat the Gazans as our natural historical compatriots and citizens, and they should hold a referendum to connect as an autonomous region to the Republic of Turkey until a Palestinian state is established. Do they think we will not stand by the Gazans while America comes and seizes Gaza? Take your precious Zionists and bring them to your vast lands in America."
