Earthquake expert Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan has mapped the disasters in Turkey.
Ercan listed the provinces most and least affected by disasters one by one, and also shared with the public the cities where the most casualties occurred.
PROVINCES LEAST AND MOST AFFECTED BY NATURAL DISASTERS
The cities most affected by natural disasters were Erzurum, Trabzon, Bingöl, Rize, and Tunceli.
On the other hand, Kırklareli emerged as the city least affected by natural disasters in Turkey. Following Kırklareli were Edirne, Kilis, Konya, Karaman, Niğde, Ankara, Urfa, Siirt, Şirnak, and Kırıkkale.
"55% OF DISASTERS ARE EARTHQUAKES"
Ercan stated in a post on his social media account: "In Turkey, the types of disasters and their percentages are as follows: 55% are earthquakes, 21% are landslides, 8% are floods, 7% are rockfalls, and 2% are avalanches. The provinces with the highest number of casualties are Kocaeli, Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Adıyaman, Malatya, Erzurum, Bingöl, Sakarya, Düzce, Van, Yalova, Muş, and Adana. The provinces most affected by disasters are Erzurum, Trabzon, Bingöl, Rize, Tunceli, Erzincan, Kastamonu, Malatya, Sivas, and Artvin. Kırklareli is among the least affected provinces, followed by Edirne, Kilis, Konya, Karaman, Niğde, Ankara, Urfa, Siirt, Şirnak, and Kırıkkale."
