AK Party member Zeybekçi opposed the increase in retirement benefits and proposed an alternative solution.

15.08.2024 07:50

AK Party Deputy Chairman Nihat Zeybekci stated that increasing the pensions of retirees who are experiencing financial difficulties is not a solution. He said, "If we were to solve the problem by giving 25,000 lira to retirees, there would be no poor country left in the world, everyone would give plenty of money and the problems would be solved. The solution is to increase production, goods, and employment. We need to make a collective decision as a country."

The statement of AK Party Deputy Chairman Nihat Zeybekci regarding the pensions of retirees facing financial difficulties has received a great deal of criticism.

"EYT MEANS CONSUMING THE RESOURCES OF THE FUTURE"

Zeybekci, who said "we have narrowed down the retirement system through EYT", stated that "EYT means consuming the resources of the future from today. Unfortunately, we have confined our retirement system to a very narrow corridor. We have over 16 million retirees. This is not sustainable. This is not a political issue, it is a national issue. When doing politics, one should act with concern for the country and the future. My views on EYT were negative in the past. But on the other hand, things that should not be related to EYT were done by saying that what matters is the homeland, the rest is trivial. Expectations are endless, resources are limited. If you look at the economic trend in the world, Turkey is on the right track. We support monetary measures. If we think of inflation as a fight program as a whole, it is not possible to eliminate demands. But with monetary measures, there is an increase in demand. We should start with support in agriculture and food in Turkey. It would be wrong to only consider retirees. We should look at low-income individuals, minimum wage earners, tradesmen, and farmers. You cannot increase welfare by increasing money. We have left the difficult times behind with the measures that need to be taken. What we need to do is to increase welfare. This can be achieved by increasing supply and production," he said.

"WE NEED TO MAKE A DECISION AS A COUNTRY"

Zeybekci emphasized that there should be no increase in the pensions of retirees facing financial difficulties and said, "If we solve the problem by giving 25 thousand liras to retirees, there would be no poor country in the world, everyone would give money abundantly and the problems would be solved. The solution is to increase products, goods, and employment. We need to make a decision as a country," he said.
