AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik criticized the 2-match suspension given to Merih Demiral by UEFA for making the wolf gesture. Çelik stated, "This is a highly erroneous decision. The fact that the decision was leaked before UEFA announced it shows that it was influenced by certain pressure groups. UEFA's decision has cast a political shadow over football."
