In Ankara, a probe was launched against individuals accused of misusing donations collected for street animals under the name "Paws Holding on to Life Association" and making unjust profits. Among the nine suspects detained is the association's president, Buket Özgünlü. The nine individuals apprehended are estimated to have caused approximately 20 million TL in damages.

According to a statement from the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office; an investigation has been launched against a total of 18 suspects, including the association's managers and other related individuals, who are accused of obtaining unjust profits by transferring donations collected under the name 'Paws That Hold On to Life Association' to their own accounts. Based on the collected evidence and the expert report obtained from the Court of Accounts expert auditors, a simultaneous detention order was issued for 9 suspects, who are estimated to have caused approximately 20 million TL in damages. The legal status of the other 9 suspects will be evaluated after their statements are taken.

SEARCHES AT MULTIPLE ADDRESSES

As part of the investigation, operations were initiated by the Ankara Provincial Police Department teams to detain the suspects. In the operation, 9 suspects, including the association's president Buket Özgünlü, were detained. Searches and seizure operations are ongoing at the suspects' residences, the association's headquarters, and its relevant units. It was stated that during this process, necessary coordination has been established with relevant public institutions and organizations to ensure the care and needs of the animals in the association's shelter are met.

TRANSPORTED SICK DOGS FROM SIVEREK TO ANKARA

Buket Özgünlü, the President of the Paws That Hold On to Life Association, was detained and arrested as part of the investigation launched after she brought sick dogs, which she allegedly adopted from a shelter in Siverek, Şanlıurfa, to Ankara in June. Buket Özgünlü, who is facing charges of 'violating measures related to infectious diseases' and 'torturing a pet' with a prison sentence of up to 4 years at the Ankara 38th Criminal Court of First Instance, was released at the first hearing.
