In a fire that broke out on the top floor of a 3-story building in Ankara, 8-year-old K.Ö.D. was trapped on the balcony and tried to protect himself from the flames by pouring water on himself and using wet cloths thrown at him. K.Ö.D. was rescued by firefighters who were dispatched to the scene. The fire, caused by a small child's candle, occurred on the top floor of a 3-story building on Reşat Nuri Street in Ayrancı neighborhood of Çankaya district around 09:30. The mother H.D. and the small child A.E.D. in the duplex apartment were rescued by the worker Murat Kocaay, who was renovating the roof of the adjacent building. The child experienced fear and panic while on the balcony. Bystanders threw wet cloth pieces to protect A.E.D. from the flames. A.E.D. tried to protect himself from the flames by pouring water on himself and using wet cloths. Murat Kocaay also climbed onto the roof of the burning building but couldn't rescue the child due to the flames. Meanwhile, firefighters were dispatched to the scene. The firefighters intervened in the flames and started working to rescue the child. A.E.D. was rescued by the fire department's ladder truck. The mother and children were taken to the hospital by ambulance for control purposes. The fire was extinguished in about 1 hour with the efforts of the firefighters. Çankaya Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner also came to the scene and received information about the work. Murat Kocaay, after rescuing the mother and the small child, said that he climbed onto the roof for the other child and stated, "I reached out my hand, but I couldn't reach. The child had experienced trauma and was scared. Then the fire department arrived, and we rescued the child together," he said.
