The accident occurred around 19:30 on Fatih Sultan Mehmet Boulevard in Alibeyköy, Eyüpsultan. According to the information obtained, the Fiat Tofaş brand car with license plate 28 ABA 980, driven by Abdullah Semih Aydın, overtook a light commercial vehicle with license plate 34 KUZ 646, which was traveling in the same direction, and crossed into the opposite lane. The vehicle with license plate 28 ABA 980 collided head-on with the IETT bus driven by Erkan Ö. coming from the opposite direction while changing lanes.

After the accident, Ceyda Öztürk (22) and Abdullah Semih Aydın (23), who were in the car, were seriously injured, and health and police teams were dispatched to the scene.
