The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated an ex officio investigation against former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu for the crime of "openly insulting the President." The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office examined Kılıçdaroğlu's statement made on his social media account, which quoted President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's post on the social media platform X on October 18: "We only look at those who try to vent their anger of being stabbed in the back by constantly insulting others on social media with pity. No matter what they do, they will not be able to escape being remembered as the forgotten bad memories of old Turkey." KILIÇDAROĞLU: MAY THE ONE WHO DOES NOT FIGHT YOU ALSO...In his post, Kılıçdaroğlu stated, "Damn you and the order you have established... Through the hands of the 5-member gang, the people's money, through the hands of drug lords, our youth and our future, the murderers you released through the judiciary you have corrupted and taken control of have become a curse on the lives and honor of our children and women. The lives of our newborn babies have been handed over to the health gang for money. 12 of our babies have closed their eyes to life just to earn 3 cents by your system's men... It weighs heavily on my heart; the sentence I will use to express my pain, at the very least, is: 'May God damn you!' The country is a place of fire, we are in a struggle for survival; you still say 'dagger.' May God damn the one who does not fight you as well." EX OFFICIO INVESTIGATION INITIATEDThe prosecutor's office evaluated that the expressions in Kılıçdaroğlu's post could constitute the crime of "openly insulting the President" and initiated an ex officio investigation against Kılıçdaroğlu.
