Following the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has also initiated an ex officio investigation against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel due to his remarks directed at Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek.
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that an investigation was initiated ex officio against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel for the crimes of "inciting to commit a crime," "insulting and threatening a public official" due to the statements he made against Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek during a rally organized by his party in Gaziosmanpaşa.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had reported that an ex officio investigation was initiated against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel due to the statements he made against Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek during a rally organized by his party in Gaziosmanpaşa.
In a statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the following was noted regarding the investigation initiated against Özgür Özel:
"An ex officio investigation has been initiated against the Chairman of the Republican People's Party, Özgür Özel, today at the rally held in our province, due to the words he uttered about Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Mr. Akın Gürlek, for the crimes of 'threatening to obstruct the duties of a judicial officer' and 'publicly insulting a public official due to their duties.'
WHAT DID ÖZGÜR ÖZEL SAY?
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had attended a rally organized by his party in Gaziosmanpaşa following corruption and terrorism investigations against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB). Özel reacted to the footage of suspects detained during the operations being taken to the courthouse after their health checks, claiming that these images set Turkey back 70-80 years.
Özgür Özel continued his speech as follows:
"Akın, you hit a hard rock, my son. Get your heads straight. I will not see that dishonor again. I ask all of Istanbul, let them hear the answer from here. If anyone takes a picture that will be heavy for one of our families, children, or elders again, are you ready to make the one who took it and the one who ordered it regret a thousand times? We are at the end of our patience. I say this with the determination in Saraçhane. I will come and tear it apart. We come like gentlemen, we do our action, we disperse, but do not make me lose my temper, we will gather to not disperse."
