Arab Coalition Carries Out Fresh Strikes On Yemen's Sanaa

Arab coalition warplanes on Wednesday staged fresh airstrikes on positions held by the Shiite Houthi group in Yemeni capital Sanaa.



The raids targeted the city's presidential compound and other sites in the capital, eyewitnesses said.



According to witnesses, coalition planes were met with anti-aircraft fire.



For the past week, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies have pounded Houthi positions across Yemen.



Saudi Arabia says the strikes are in response to appeals by embattled President ABD Rabbuh Mansour Hadi to "save the [Yemeni] people from the Houthi militias."



Yemen has remained in turmoil since last September, when the Houthis overran capital Sanaa, from which they have since sought to extend their influence to other parts of the fractious country.



Some Gulf States accuse Shiite Iran of supporting Yemen's Houthi insurgency.
