23-year-old Özge Ceren Deniz and 43-year-old İnanç Öktemay lost their lives when they tried to cross the road in İzmir and got electrocuted in the water accumulated due to heavy rain. Initial investigations following the scandalous incident suggest that there was an electrical leakage in the sewer system. A local shop owner said, "The electrical wires have been there for 6 years. They even shocked me twice. I told them to fix it, saying 'There is electricity here.' But they left without doing anything."
Two people lost their lives when they were electrocuted while trying to cross the road during heavy rain in the Konak district of Izmir. The initial suspicion in the incident is that there is an electrical leakage in the sewer, and investigations are being carried out in the area.
The incident took place in the Alsancak neighborhood of Konak district yesterday. Özge Ceren Deniz (23) and İnanç Öktemay (44) were caught in the rain while the city was experiencing heavy rainfall. Deniz and Öktemay, who wanted to cross the road from the water puddle, were electrocuted in the water.
MINUTES OF HEART MASSAGE WERE PERFORMED
Health teams who arrived at the scene performed heart massage on Özge Ceren Deniz and İnanç Öktemay, who were electrocuted for minutes. The two individuals, who were revived after intense efforts, were taken to the hospital by ambulances. The young people, whose condition was critical, lost their lives at the hospital.
THE FIRST SUSPICION IS ELECTRICAL LEAKAGE IN THE SEWER
Meanwhile, officials from the electricity company and the Izmir Police Department Crime Scene Investigation Branch conducted investigations in the area where the incident occurred. The officials will first conduct excavation work in the area where there is suspicion of electrical leakage in the sewer.
"ELECTRIC WIRES HAVE BEEN THERE FOR 6 YEARS"
İsa Yaman, a 58-year-old shopkeeper who witnessed the incident, described the moments. Yaman said, "I saw it there yesterday. The girl fell, her friend tried to save her but he also fell. Both of them were electrocuted. I saw it from the other side, I couldn't intervene. They both died. The electric wires have been there for 6 years. They even hit me twice on my leg. I barely survived, otherwise I would have died. I warned them, 'There is electricity here, fix it' I said. They left without doing anything," he said.
