In Ümraniye, during a struggle with a suspect caught for motorcycle theft, a police officer was martyred when the suspect fired a weapon, and two people, including one police officer, were injured.
According to a statement from the Istanbul Police Department, an operation was carried out to capture the individual who was caught for "motorcycle theft" by the Dudullu Police Station of the Ümraniye District Police Department and subsequently fled. STRUGGLE WITH POLICE OFFICERSDuring the operations, a struggle occurred between the officers and Y.E.Ç. (19), who has 26 criminal records for various offenses, while he was being captured in the Ihlamurkuyu neighborhood. The suspect took the weapon from the officer and opened fire on the police and bystanders, while female police officer Şeyda Yılmaz (27) also returned fire. The treatments of injured police officer K.H.S. and P.G. are ongoing in the hospital. In the police operation, the suspect Y.E.Ç. was also captured injured. The statement noted that an investigation had been initiated against the suspect for "intentional murder" and "intentional injury," expressing condolences for the martyr and wishing urgent recovery for the injured police officer. The footage shows the police attempting to neutralize the suspect, during which the suspect took the officer's weapon and opened fire, and the police immediately returned fire. As the suspect fled while shooting, other officers rushed to the injured police officer's side. The police investigation regarding the incident is ongoing.
