In an armed attack on the emergency department of Bahçelievler State Hospital in Istanbul, a total of 5 people were injured, including 1 hospital police officer, 1 hospital gendarmerie officer, 1 security guard, and 2 patient relatives.
Unidentified individuals who arrived in front of the emergency department of Bahçelievler State Hospital around 02:30 opened fire towards the hospital. In the gunfire, 5 people were injured, including 1 hospital police officer, 1 hospital gendarme, 1 hospital security guard, and 2 relatives of patients who were outside at that time. The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment and it was reported that their health conditions were good.
EXTENSIVE MEASURES TAKEN
After the attack, numerous bullets hit the windows of the emergency department, and extensive security measures were taken at the hospital. As a precaution, a large number of special operations and riot police teams were dispatched to the scene. The extensive investigations initiated by the police teams to identify and apprehend the fleeing attackers are ongoing.
VEHICLE USED IN THE ATTACK FOUND ABANDONED
In the morning hours, the Istanbul Governorship made a written statement regarding the incident. The statement said, "An armed attack was carried out against those waiting in front of Bahçelievler State Hospital on Saturday, August 31, 2024, around 02:50. In the gunfire opened by the attackers who arrived at the scene by vehicle, 5 people were injured, including a police officer, a gendarmerie personnel, a private security personnel, and two civilian citizens. The injured were taken under treatment and they are not in life-threatening conditions. While the attackers fled the scene with the vehicle they came, the vehicle used in the attack was found abandoned in Yenibosna. A comprehensive investigation has been launched to apprehend the suspects."
