Armed threat and assault against the Deputy Mayor of Menderes Municipality in his office!

According to claims in İzmir; a person named Yakup T. came to the office of Menderes Municipality Mayor Rüzgar Sönmez with a group of friends to obtain a business license.

FIRST ARMED THREAT THEN ASSAULT

As the tension during the meeting escalated, Yakup T. pulled out his gun and threatened Sönmez. His cousin Halil K. assaulted the Deputy Mayor.

80% VISION LOSS IN ONE EYE

Upon Sönmez's complaint, the attacking cousins were detained by the police. Sönmez was taken to Menderes State Hospital by ambulance. After the initial intervention there, Sönmez was transferred to Gaziemir State Hospital, where it was reported that he experienced 80% vision loss in one eye as a result of the assault report he received. The suspects' procedures at the police station are ongoing.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

In a written statement from the İzmir Governor's Office, it was stated, "Our teams swiftly arrived at the scene upon the report of the 'assaulted person' at Menderes Municipality around 12:30 today. During the investigation, an arrest was made based on the allegation that a punch was thrown at Deputy Mayor Rüzgar Sönmez. Judicial investigation regarding the matter is ongoing."

THE PLANNING DIRECTOR WAS INJURED IN THE LEG

On the other hand; on August 8, Sarper Dikmen, the Director of Planning and Urbanism of Menderes Municipality, was also injured in the leg during an armed attack on İnönü Street. After the incident, one of the two suspects detained, Murat Özcan, was arrested, while Y.A. was released under judicial control.
