A senior army commander survived an assassination attempt in Yemen's western Al-Hudaydah province on Thursday, a military source has said.
"Lt. Gen. Khaled Khalil, the operations head of the 5th Military Zone, survived an attempt on his life when gunmen opened fire on his car in Al-Hudaydah city," the source told The Anadolu Agency.
The army commander was unhurt in the attack and the militants escaped the scene unscathed, the source said.
There has been no claim of responsibility for Thursday's attack.
Yemen has been in turmoil since a popular uprising in 2011 ousted long serving Saleh one year later.
