Trade Minister Ömer Bolat met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran. Minister Bolat, who came to Tehran with his delegation for the 29th Term Meeting of the Turkey-Iran Joint Economic Commission, discussed with Iranian President Pezeshkian after the meeting.
According to a statement made by the Iranian Presidency after the closed-door meeting, Pezeshkian emphasized the necessity and importance of strengthening relations among Islamic countries and stated that they addressed this issue in discussions with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. "WE WANT TO EXCLUDE THE DOLLAR FROM TRADE"Pezeshkian expressed that sharing capacities among Islamic countries, from trade markets to transportation routes and other potentials, would benefit each other, saying, "We must solve our problems fraternally and strengthen the power of the Islamic world in a practical way." Pezeshkian stated that they wanted to create a framework for financial cooperation with Turkey and to exclude the dollar from mutual trade, saying, "We attach importance to the implementation of bilateral agreements and will continue to cooperate strongly to disappoint the enemies who are disturbed by relations with Islamic countries." 2 NEW BORDER GATES WILL BE OPENEDTrade Minister Bolat also stated that they are working intensively to reach the target of 30 billion dollars in trade between the two countries, expressing that Turkey wants to renew its energy agreement with Iran. Indicating that they will modernize border gates to facilitate joint customs trade between the two countries, Bolat said, "We are trying to open 2 more border gates with Iran. We are also trying to strengthen border crossings and markets between the two countries." Bolat noted that they want to revitalize the preferential trade agreement signed with Iran in 2015 and implement a comprehensive agreement in tourism as well.
