Assad Regime Shells Refugee Camp In Northwestern Syria

09.06.2021 13:57

No casualties reported in attack targeting mosque, school in al Abrar refugee camp in Idlib.

The Assad regime's forces shelled a refugee camp in northwestern Syria on Wednesday.

No casualties have been reported in the attack, which targeted a mosque and a school in the al-Abrar refugee camp in the village of Taoum in the northwestern Idlib province, according to an Anadolu Agency correspondent.

Syria has been mired in a vicious civil war since early 2011, when Bashar al-Assad's regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.

Over the past decade, around half a million people have been killed and more than 12 million had to flee their homes.

Idlib falls within a de-escalation zone forged under an agreement between Turkey and Russia in March 2020.

The Syrian regime, however, has consistently violated the terms of the cease-fire, launching frequent attacks inside the de-escalation zone.
