A knife-wielding man who attacked a soldier guarding the Iranian envoy's residence in Vienna late Sunday was later shot dead, police said on Monday.
Police spokesman Harald Soeros told reporters that a 26-year-old Austrian national had used a knife to attack and injure a soldier guarding the Iranian ambassador's residence late on Sunday. The soldier in response shot the attacker dead, he added.
Ministry of Defense spokesman Michael Bauer said the soldier had used pepper spray before shooting the attacker.
