Deputy Director General of Meteorology Yüksel Yağan issued a new warning for Istanbul. Yağan said, "Starting from the first hours of Friday, we estimate that precipitation will start again in Istanbul with southerly winds from the southern parts. We expect it to be locally strong, especially in the northern parts of the European side of the city. We have also issued a meteorological warning about this."

Deputy Director General of Meteorology Yüksel Yağan said, "We estimate that starting from the first hours of Friday, with southerly winds coming from the southern parts, rain will begin again in Istanbul."

Yağan made statements regarding the severe rainfall in Istanbul and the weather conditions in the coming days.

Noting that as the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM), in their analyses, they had predicted that Turkey would come under the influence of a rainy system starting from the first week of this month, Yağan said that Istanbul and its surroundings had become open to the effects of this rainy system.

Stating that the rainy system that affected Istanbul yesterday was a cold-character rainy system coming over the Balkans, Yağan said, "We determine these rainfall amounts according to the precipitation we measure daily between 09.00 in the morning and 09.00 the next morning, and we share this as daily rainfall information with our citizens via MGM's website and MGM's application."

"OUR WARNING CONTINUES IN ISTANBUL"

Recalling that they had forecast thunderstorms and showers for Istanbul starting from October 7, Yağan said, "In all our daily forecasts, weekly weather forecast reports, and hourly weather forecast reports, we shared this with our citizens. As a result of the meteorological assessments we made, we decided to issue a meteorological early warning on Tuesday afternoon. This was a two-day warning. Our warning still continues in Istanbul until midnight. We estimated that the rainfall would be spread over time in two days, and we issued a yellow-code warning."

Pointing out that Istanbul's especially European Side, the northern parts of the European Side, and the northern parts of the Anatolian Side remained more under the influence of this rainy system, Yağan gave the information that yesterday in Beykoz the strongest rainfall was seen with 186.3 kilograms.

"RAIN WILL START AGAIN FRIDAY MORNING"

Stating that the soil in Istanbul is saturated with rain, Yağan noted the following:

"In our meteorological early warning, we had already indicated this flood and inundation. In line with that, there are puddles in low-lying areas, stream beds, and areas suitable for water accumulation, with some regions being more affected. Therefore, this risk should not be taken. The soil is saturated. Currently, rainfall in Istanbul has stopped. On the Anatolian side, we may see very light-intensity rainfall like this. These rains will continue in this way until midnight. Starting from the first hours of Friday, with southerly winds coming from the southern parts, we estimate that rain will begin again in Istanbul. We expect it to be locally strong especially in the northern parts of the city's European side. We have also issued a meteorological warning regarding this."

YELLOW CODE WARNING FOR ISTANBUL

Yağan stated that they did not have an assessment regarding the "yellow" code warning in Istanbul turning into an "orange" code warning, and continued as follows:

"Right now, we are again talking about a yellow-code warning that is spread over time and will show its effect over time. The warning we issued today starts tomorrow at 09.00 and continues until Saturday 23.59. On Friday, we will see somewhat stronger rainfall especially in the northern parts of the city's European side, with the effect of these southerly winds. We estimate that the northern districts of the city such as Arnavutköy and Beykoz will be affected. This effect continues up to the coasts of Kırklareli and Tekirdağ. After Friday, starting from the first hours of Saturday, the rainfall again strengthens. We recommend that our citizens be a little more careful on Saturday during this upcoming 3-day period."

Warning citizens against information pollution, Yağan said that weather forecast information could be accessed via MGM's website, the Voice of Meteorology Radio, and MGM's mobile application.
