Australia Confirms Hottest November On Record

01.12.2020 13:57

This was also Australia’s hottest spring in terms of mean, minimum temperatures, according to official data.

Australia has broken the record for its warmest November in history, local media reported on Tuesday.

According to the country's Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), this was also Australia's hottest spring on record for mean and minimum temperatures, ABC News reported.

November's maximums came in at 2.9C (37.22F) above the 1961-90 average, surpassing the 2.4C (36.32F) mark set in November 2014, read the report.

Mean and minimum temperatures this spring were Australia's warmest on record at 2.03C (35.65F) and 1.91C (35.43F) above the average, respectively, according to the report.

"Australia's climate has also warmed on average 1.44C [34.59F] (plus or minus 0.24C) since 1910, as outlined in the most recent BOM and CSIRO [Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization] State of the Climate report," read the ABC News report.

Last September, some 300,000 people turned out at climate change rallies across Australia in one of the largest protests in the country's history.

Demonstrators in all major cities called on the government to commit to measures including no new coal, oil, or gas projects, and 100% renewable energy generation and exports by 2030, ABC News reported at the time.
