Ayşenur Eygi is today's Deniz Gezmiş.

Ayşenur Eygi is today's Deniz Gezmiş.

13.09.2024 14:20

CHP leader Özgür Özel attended the ceremony held at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport for Turkish activist Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who was killed by Israeli soldiers in the West Bank. Özel said, "The Palestinian cause is the cause of all Turkey, but especially the cause of the left." Özel also used the expression, "Ayşenur is the Deniz Gezmiş of today, of this era."

The body of Turkish activist Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who was killed by Israeli soldiers in the West Bank, arrived in Turkey this morning. A ceremony was held for Ezgi at İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport, attended by CHP leader Özgür Özel. The ceremony included a prayer by İzmir Provincial Mufti Sinan Kazancı. The body of Turkish activist Eygi will be buried tomorrow in the district of Didim in Aydın.

"AYŞENUR IS THE DENIZ GEZMİŞ OF THIS ERA"

Following the ceremony, CHP leader Özgür Özel made a statement to the press, saying, "We just welcomed Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi. Ayşenur is a sister who lives in America but resides in Didim, with an Antalya-born mother and a Denizli-born father. Ayşenur is the Deniz Gezmiş of this era. She is a person with left-wing, socialist views, and like all leftists and social democrats, she has a heart that stands behind the Palestinian cause. Just as the line formed by Bülent Ecevit and Yasser Arafat in the 1970s determines my line as the leader of the Republican People's Party, my relationship with Mahmoud Abbas also determines it. Similarly, the stance taken by Deniz Gezmiş and his friends influences leftist and socialist students in Turkey and around the world. I previously mentioned that when Deniz Gezmiş's closest friend İsa, who stayed with him in Palestinian camps, was on his deathbed, he sent us a book translated into Turkish by his son, saying 'Greetings to those who follow in Deniz Gezmiş's footsteps'."

"PALESTINE IS ESPECIALLY THE CAUSE OF THE LEFT"

Continuing his statement by saying, "The Palestinian cause is the cause of all of Turkey, but especially the cause of the left," Özel added:

"Just as we stood behind Palestine alone in the 1970s, today we stand behind it without any ifs or buts. We condemn Israel's atrocities and state terrorism once again. Hamas has not even completed a year since the beginning of November. The Israeli state, which started its attacks at midnight and turned it into an opportunity, claims to use its legitimate right to self-defense while engaging in genocide. They will have a very difficult time accounting for this in history. The Jews have suffered great oppression. They have been subjected to genocide, and everyone in the world stands with them against the genocide they have suffered. Now, no one is blaming all Jews for what the leaders of the State of Israel have done."

"WE REBEL AGAINST THIS HYPOCRISY"

But we say once again that it is an act that is of no benefit to Jews, Muslims, or any other person in the world for Netanyahu to put Jews who have a historical victimhood and legitimacy in this situation. It threatens world peace. It eliminates the foundation of human morality.

Unfortunately, while many countries are extremely meticulous, strict, and protective against what Russia has done to Ukraine, when it comes to what Israel has done to Palestine, they speak with hesitation, soften their words, and use extremely flexible sentences. We rebel against this hypocrisy. We say once again, both as the Republican People's Party and as a left-wing, social democratic party representing Turkey internationally and as a party that is a candidate for future power, stand on the right side for our friends and enemies. Stand with Palestine and stop Israel."
