Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed his reaction to the 2-match ban imposed on national football player Merih Demiral by UEFA, stating, "The punishment given to Merih is unfair and I strongly condemn it. I wish victory to the Turkish national team in their match against the Netherlands."

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has sent a message of support to the Turkish National Team, who will face the Netherlands in the quarter-finals of the 2024 European Football Championship hosted by Germany today, through his social media account.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NATIONAL TEAM

In his message, Aliyev said, "I congratulate our Turkish National Team for their successful performance in the European Football Championship held in Germany and for reaching the quarter-finals, thus being among the top 8 national teams in Europe."

Aliyev also commented on the incident of Merih Demiral being given a 2-match ban for making the Grey Wolf sign, saying, "I congratulate Merih Demiral, who was selected as the best player of the game by scoring 2 goals in particular in the match against Austria. The punishment given to Merih is unfair and I strongly condemn it. I wish victory to the Turkish national team in their match against the Netherlands! Long live the Turkish world!"

The Turkish National Football Team will face the Netherlands at the Berlin Olympic Stadium at 22:00 CET.
