Australian airline company Jetstar has changed its cabin baggage policy, introducing an additional fee for passengers who will use the overhead locker. Under the new regulation, only small personal bags can be carried free of charge, while a fee starting from 25 Australian dollars will be charged for large carry-on luggage.
Australian low-cost airline Jetstar has made a significant change to its cabin baggage policy. Under the new rules, passengers can only bring a small personal bag that fits under the seat in front of them on board for free.
Passengers who wish to use the overhead baggage lockers will have to pay an additional fee.
FEES START FROM 25 AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS
According to the new fare structure announced by the airline, the fee for using the overhead locker will start from 25 Australian dollars on short-haul flights. On some international routes, this fee could go up to 52 Australian dollars.
Passengers who pay the extra fee will also be entitled to priority boarding.
7 KILOGRAM LIMIT REMOVED
Jetstar has announced that it will also remove the existing 7-kilogram cabin baggage limit with the new policy. The airline stated that passengers' bags will not be routinely weighed before boarding.
However, for safety reasons, it was advised that bags should not exceed 10 kilograms so that passengers can place them in the overhead lockers by themselves.
REASON FOR THE DECISION EXPLAINED
Jetstar stated that the change was implemented based on feedback from passengers and cabin crew. The company noted that weighing bags at the gate and not finding space in overhead lockers were among the most frequently mentioned complaints.
