In a message published on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Azerbaijan's October 18 Day of Restoration of Independence, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli drew attention to the Karabakh Victory and the historical ties between the two countries. Emphasizing that Turkey and Azerbaijan act with the understanding of "One nation, two states" and that "There can be no return from this," Bahçeli said, "Azerbaijan and Turkey are an inseparable whole on any issue. We are two sons of one mother from the same lineage."

MHP General Chairman Devlet Bahçeli issued a written message on the occasion of Azerbaijan's 18 October Independence Restoration Day. In his statement, Bahçeli touched on many issues, from Azerbaijan's independence struggle to the Karabakh Victory and the historical ties between the two countries.

“I CONGRATULATE THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY WITH MY MOST SINCERE FEELINGS”

Recalling Azerbaijan's regaining of independence in 1991, Bahçeli began his message with these words: “Happy ‘Independence Restoration Day’ of our brotherly and friendly country, which once again proclaimed its sovereignty and freedom to the whole world with the Constitutional Act on the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted on 18 October 1991. I congratulate the 35th anniversary of this meaningful day with my most sincere feelings.”

HE DREW ATTENTION TO THE KARABAKH VICTORY

Evaluating the regaining of independence as an indication of the Azerbaijani people's will for freedom, Bahçeli stated that the Karabakh Victory achieved in 2020 strengthened this will.

Bahçeli said, “The ‘Independence Restoration Day’ of brotherly and friendly Azerbaijan is not only the rebirth of a state but also the expression of the noble stance of a nation that did not accept captivity and did not bow to it. With the Karabakh Victory of 27 September-10 November 2020, Azerbaijan has given a new meaning and strength to its national independence.”

“THERE WILL BE NO TURNING BACK FROM THIS”

Addressing the shared history of Turkey and Azerbaijan and the solidarity between the two countries, Bahçeli used the following expressions in the continuation of his statement: “The phrase ‘A flag that rises once will never fall again!’ is the essence of the independence idea of friendly and brotherly Azerbaijan. The statement ‘Azerbaijan's joy is our joy, its sorrow is our sorrow’ is the concrete declaration of our feelings toward our friendly and brotherly country. These thoughts are the reflection of historical experiences and shared destiny. Turkey and Azerbaijan, located in the cradle of a great civilization, have withstood all difficulties with the same thoughts and displayed a common stance with the understanding of ‘One nation, two states.’ It is also an absolute reality that they will shape their future with the same feelings and thoughts. There will be no turning back from this.

“WE ARE TWO SONS OF THE SAME MOTHER FROM THE SAME LINEAGE”

Emphasizing that the two countries are an inseparable whole from each other, Bahçeli completed his message with these words: “Azerbaijan and Turkey are an inseparable whole no matter the issue. We are two sons of a mother from the same lineage. From eternity to eternity, our religion, language, love, and path are one. Our passion and our fight are also one. On this occasion, I once again celebrate our brothers' and friends' ‘Independence Restoration Day’ and convey my greetings and affection to each of them.”
