Disciplinary proceedings have been launched against Australia over its 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup group match against Angola that the Oceanian side lost 91-83, international basketball federation FIBA has announced.
Australia -nicknamed as "Boomers" - had a disappointing performance throughout the Group D match against the African side amid speculation the Oceanian team could have deliberately lost the game in order not to draw against latest world champions USA until the semi final, according to a statement on FIBA's official website on Monday.
The Australian Basketball Federation has the right to submit a statement on the game before FIBA decides on whether to impose sanctions, FIBA said.
Australia completed the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup Group D in third place after achieving three wins and suffering two losses and were eliminated by Turkey in Round of 16.
