Behiye Teymur, a member of the Board of Directors of Haberler.com, stated that high rent increases not only deeply affect individuals' lives but also the fundamental dynamics of the national economy. Emphasizing that rising rental costs impose heavy burdens on businesses, Teymur expressed that negative effects such as a decrease in production, weakening in the industry, and rising food prices could lead to a chain economic crisis. Teymur said, "This situation is not just a housing problem; it is a crisis that shakes the national economy to its core. If not brought under control, issues such as inflation, unemployment, and income inequality will deepen further."

Government's Search for Solutions

Recently, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek announced that new policies are being worked on to increase housing supply in order to solve rent increases and the housing crisis. According to Şimşek's statements, not only low-interest loan policies but also regulations that encourage new housing construction are on the agenda. However, it was noted that the "First Home" campaigns implemented in the past did not achieve their purpose due to speculative price increases.

Policies That Can Be Implemented Against High Rent Increases

Behiye Teymur stated that policies implemented in European countries to cope with similar problems should be taken as examples. In particular, she emphasized that the method of temporarily freezing real estate prices applied in Spain, Canada, and Ireland is effective in ensuring market stability. She also mentioned that high taxes on vacant properties in countries like the UK, France, and Australia have increased housing supply. Teymur, who also evaluated the limitation of investment-based housing purchases, pointed out that imposing high taxes on the purchase of second and additional properties could reduce speculation. Additionally, she stated that price updates on real estate listing sites should be monitored to prevent manipulative price increases, expressing that such regulations would play a critical role in market balance.

Effective Regulations Are Essential for Housing Rights and Economic Balance

Behiye Teymur stated that supervision and regulations in the real estate market need to be increased, saying, "The right to housing is a human right, and the steps to be taken in this regard will benefit not only individuals but the entire society." She emphasized that the policies to be implemented will play an important role in maintaining economic balances.
