Besiktas Dominant Over Porto İn Champions League

14.09.2017 01:43

Black Eagles begin campaign with 3 1 win.

Besiktas defeated Porto 3-1 in Portugal on Wednesday night in a superb start to the Istanbul club's UEFA Champions League run.

The Group G match at Dragao Stadium saw early action when Brazilian winger Anderson Talisca netted a powerful header in the 13th minute on an assist by Portuguese Ricardo Quaresma.

Just eight minutes later, Besiktas defender Dusko Tosic inadvertently scored an own goal on a header to equalize.

That setback did little to stop the Black Eagles attack as Besiktas regained the lead when striker Cenk Tosun found the net on a powerful shot from 30 meters (98 feet) out.

In the 86th minute, Dutch winger Ryan Babel gave Besiktas a two-goal cushion and the final scoreline at 3-1.

In the other Group G match, Monaco and RB Liepzig played to a 1-1 draw, paving the way for Besiktas to lead the group after the first matches.

Emil Forsberg scored for the German side, but only 45 seconds later, Monaco's Youri Tielemans equalized.

Real Madrid, current holders of the Champions League Cup, beat APOEL 3-0 in a Group H match, with superstar Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a pair of goals.

Tottenham beat Borussia Dortmund 3-1 at Wembley Stadium in the other match in Group G. Striker Harry Kane started the scoring campaign with two winners.
